IPhone X over heating

I use my iPhone X mounted in a case on ram mounts for waze and google maps along with my Zumo. I never had over heating issues with the iPhone 6 but with the X it over heats very easily just being exposed to 85 degree day with sunlight.

Anyone have any suggestions or tricks as to how to help keep it cool? Anyone doing anything that prevents this symptom?

Thanks

Re: IPhone X over heating

85 deg ambient temp is great as the phone is supposed to go up to 95.
I doubt that the surface temp is 85 in direct sunlight on an 85 degree day.

Someone must make an integral case\ heat sink cover.
never thought of it but certain apps running in the background using extra cpu cycles may contribute.
I would try and and least cut them off off using data as you cant really use them while driving anyway
facebook etc big background batteryhogs so it stands to reason they would contibute to heat.

Re: IPhone X over heating

I have tried all of that, it seems to be due to direct sunlight vs not. Though if iím Doing highway riding the wind seems to be enough to cool it. I may try and cut out more room around the phone for less surface area touching. I know like me other long distance guys are using smartphones and figured Iíd ask if anyone found a case or doing anything different that should try.

Re: IPhone X over heating

what kind of case? many of them seal the phone and do not allow proper cooling, especially in the sun. try it without the case.

Re: IPhone X over heating

The old case I was using was a plastic clam shell type of case made for mountain biking. The case is a zippered case with a clear window, the phone is held in place by some loose fitting foam so Iím going to try and re-work the foam for more air flow.

Re: IPhone X over heating

so they make double sided adhesive heat sink tape some graphite material.
adhere to back of phone then to a finned thin copper heat sink.

if yuu could incorporate a heat pipe like in a laptop heatsink cooler into your holder it would be awesome.

Re: IPhone X over heating

When I used to keep my iphone in a tankbank clear pocket for GPS, it would overheat very quickly, that one was black. Once I changed to a white iphone i never had any problems again...might not help you much as you already have the phone but the color really makes a difference.

Good idea, I also like the idea of white or reflective everywhere but the screen, probably would help. Iím surprised no one has made anything yet.
